19TH INTERNATIONAL VIOLIN COMPETITION “VILLA DE LLANES” 2017

INFORMATION

(Versión español)

PURPOSE

The Cultural Section of the Llanes City calls for the 19th International Violin Competition "Villa de Llanes" in two different categories:
        
 Category A:  up to 25 years old.
 Category B:  up to 16 years old.

This competition has three specialties:

1) Violin
2) Viola
3) Cello

Each year a competition in one specialty will be held, this year 2017 corresponds to Violin.

This Competition will be held  in Llanes, at the Main Hall of the High School, C/ Celso Amieva s/n, from August 23rd to 25th.

Category  B:

August 23rd at 4:00 p.m.: presentation and beginning of eliminatory round.
August 24th at  4:00 p.m.: final.

Category A:

August 24th at 10:00 a.m.: presentation and beginning of eliminatory round.
August 25th at 10:00 a.m.: final.

August 25th at 7:00 p.m.: laureates concert and awards ceremony.

The rules of the Competition are the same for both categories, except section 2 and the works from each category´s different rounds.

COMPETITION RULES

1º)The Competition is addressed to any young violinist, from all nationalities, who meet the rules of the competition.

2º) Age limit up to August 23rd 2017:
Category A:25 years old
Category B: 16 years old.

3º) The competition consists of:


1. Selection of participants: each candidate is requested to send a DVD recording containing two pieces lasting around 20 minutes in total (one for violin solo, and one with piano accompaniment) by June 20 2017 to the following address:

There will be a total of 12 candidates admitted to the eliminatory round of each category.

4º) The candidate will submit, at the time of his/her performance, a copy of the score of every work he/she will be performing.

5º) According to the raffle performed by the Organization Commission of the Competition, the participants will start from letter J, following an ascendant order taking into account the initial of their family name.

6º)Competitors who took part in previous editions are allowed to participate again, excluding those who were awarded the 1st prize.

7º) The lists with the admitted candidates into each category will be published in the web page www.llanesmusica.com before June 30th, 2017.

8º) Admitted candidates must confirm their participation in the following rounds of the competition by August 15th 2017.

REGISTRATION

Together with a fully completed registration form, each candidate must submit the following documents:
a) A copy of the applicant’s Identity Card or Passport.
b) Brief "curriculum vitae"
c) Bank receipt corresponding to registration fees of 60 € for category A and 40 € for category B. The registration fees will not be refunded in any case, nor will the required documents be returned to the applicant.

Applications received after the deadline will not be accepted nor returned. In case the organization remarks the lack of any required document, the applicant will be contacted in order to submit it within a maximum delay of ten days. After this date, the application will not be accepted into the competition.

Participants duties

All candidates must be present in the competition venue indicated above 15 minutes before the beginning of the presentation and first round, in order to receive all the information needed.

Once an applicant has been admitted into the Competition, he/she will be immediately obliged to participate in each established trial on the dates and times foreseen for the Competition. An absence at any of the trials will eliminate the candidate.

Every candidate will bring his/her accompanying pianist.

The organization will not be responsible for any possible incidents that occur to the musician or to their instrument(s) during the Competition.

Once a candidate has paid his/her registration fee and has been admitted into the competition, there will be no more expenses required to take part in it. However, the candidate will be responsible for his/her transportation and housing expenses.

The prize winners of the competition must attend the awards ceremony. In the event a winner is not able to attend, he will relinquish his award.
The non-completion of any of the rules established in these regulations, or any deficiency or omission in the inscription sections will lead to the application being cancelled and the candidate not being admitted to the Competition.

Jury

The Jury will be formed by members of the teaching faculty of the INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COMPETITION OF LLANES, which will be taking place at the same time as the competition, as well as a representative nominated by the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias (OSPA). A member of the City Hall of LLanes will act as Secretary, and the Jury´s President will be the Artistic Director of the Competition.

Once all the Competition rounds are finished, the Jury will decide the prizes awards and may declare some of them void, if they consider it appropriate.
Nevertheless, the resolutions will be final and the Jury will be entitled to solve the questions which were not specifically foreseen in the rules.

The Jury has the right to interrupt any work in the that it is considered appropriate.

Candidates are guaranteed that all indications displayed on the notice board will be valid.

The audience will be allowed into every trial of the Competition. However, the Jury’s president could evacuate the hall in case of unusual and inconvenient signs of the audience, and continue the trial in private.

Every audio or video recording are forbidden.

Prizewinners Concerts

Only the Organization Committee will nominate the prize winners who will take part in the closing concert, if it is held. These prize winners are obliged to take part in this concert. In the case that a prize winner does not attend , the individual must renounce his/her prize and will not be allowed to cash any money. The Committee will also decide the pieces will be payed. These will be from the selections presented during the Competition.

PRIZES 

(Category A)

First prize: 3.000 € and Diploma.
Special prize: Concert/s with the Principality of Asturias Symphony Orchestra (OSPA). Once the jury decision has been made in the Competition, the final concession of this award will be given after an extra audition that will take place in the four months following the Competition date, with the OSPA´s Artistic Director, Rossen Milanov. The prize winner will perform a free choice work, with or without piano accompaniment. The venue for this audition will be chosen both by the prize winner and the organization. The concert/s will take place during the 2017-2018, and the piece to be performed will be chosen by the orchestra among two or three possible pieces with orchestra that the candidate will propose.
Special prize: Three recitals in the Philharmonic Societies of Oviedo, Gijón and Avilés, each of them being rewarded with 500€. This prize will be given to a contestant of any category (A or B).
Second prize: 1.400 € and Diploma.
Third prize: 630 € and Diploma.
Prize to the best performer of Spanish music: 300 € and Diploma.

The amount of the prizes is subjected to the tax regulations in force.

(Category B)

First prize: 1.350 € and Diploma.
Second prize: 700 € and Diploma.
Third prize: 400 € and Diploma.
Prize to the best interpreter of Spanish music: 200 € and Diploma.

The amount of the prizes is subjected to the tax regulations in force.
